I saw this Diner featured on DDD and we are coming from Australia, first stop Chicago in Sep 2012. We are staying in the city. What would a taxi cost to get to this diner, and is it open?

Back open as of 4/19.  Went there on 4/26 and it was as good as always.

Went for a late lunch. I got the open faced turkey sandwich, which was good but not outstanding. My boyfriend had the pot roast sandwich, and again, it was nothing like the amazing food Guy described. The chef he profiled wasn't there that day. The waitstaff was friendly but it really wasn't all that remarkable a place. This was our first DDD outing; others will follow.

From someone from Chicago, this neighborhood is not dicey at all, those who are concerned should go back to Indiana.

The club sandwich was the best one I have ever eaten, and I have eaten a lot of clubs, also the fresh made doughnut holes with mocha sauce are incredible!!

Went on a Sunday morning, I had the corned beef hash (excellent, original, NOT from the can) and my wife had the apple pancakes, she loved them.  After breaksfast, ordered the donut holes with Mocha-off the hook.  Went back two days later for lunch after seeing the cook prepare the pot roast sandwich and dreaming about it.  It scored big time.  My wife had the patty melt w/ mac and cheese.  This place is a winner.  I find 50% of DDD to be ordinary and 50% to be worth a return trip.  This place will see me again.

We stopped by last Saturday evening about 6:30 p.m. I had the Pot Roast Sandwich, and my son had the French Dip Sandwich. The food was great. The place wasn't real busy at the time we were there. Only three or four other customers during the time we were in the establishment. The initial response from the wait staff was immediate, and they got the sandwiches to us quickly. The Pot Roast sandwich was delicious. The followup service was basically non existent. We never did get a refill on our cola's. A young man was at the counter and went into the kitchen area of the restaurant apparently to let the waitress know that we were finished with our meals. She and two other employees were in the kitchen area engaged in a loud, boisterous conversation. She came out, asked if we wanted dessert, and brought us the check. We left a small tip, and exited the establishment. The food was excellent, the service was barely adequate, but I can honestly recommend the place on the food alone. Maybe you will receive better service than we did. I would suggest that you go earlier in the day, as the location can be a little scary after dark.

Food was great...open faced turkey sandwich and yummy donut holes with mocha sauce were worth the trip!  Only complaint was that we stayed in Downtown Chicago and the cab ride (one way) cost more than our dinner!  After dinner (roughly 6:30 PM), we called for 2 cabs and waited 45 minutes to catch a cab back Downtown, and were told that it's not the safest of neighborhoods after dark and tht a cab most likely woudln't come out there to get us!   Thankfully, a wonderful family offered to give us a ride to the train station, so we could get back to our hotel. There are some great people in the world!  THANK YOU!

Went at night.  Place was deserted and street was like some kind of ghetto.  Long walk to park.  Open faced turley sandwich was pretty good, nothing special.  Cheap but not worth the walk through the Chicago night streets.

Best Turkey Club ever.  With actual carved turkey, no turkey loaf.

My brother, who was visiting from Tumwater, WA, found this diner on DDD website and wanted to try a place Guy Fieri really liked and even signed his name on a wall in the diner.  OMG, the food was fresh, delicious, big portions and OMG for the hot-off-the-deep-frier donut holes with mocha sauce and whipped cream.  Not to mention I floated in heaven drinking homemade chocolate egg cream (after I had downed a chocolate phosphate)!!!!  Their hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes was huge and yummy.  The place is small but if you have to wait, you'll be glad you did.  The staff was very friendly and I felt right at home.

Good food.  My Wife and I enjoyed eating here.  We ate here the day after we ate at Kuma's Corner (read my review of that).  The Depot had friendly staff.  The food was good old fashioned American food.  We had three entree's just to "test" the menu. An open faced turkey sandwich, a roast beef sandwich, and Spaghetti.  The first two items were just like mom used to make. The spaghetti was okay, I am an italian fanatic and it wasn't the best I have ever had.  Still a good meal though.  Then we had dessert, dessert was 5 donut holes with a chocolate mocha dipping sauce.  they were amazing.  I will be going back there on my next trip to Chicago.
