I wish they were still open! Great breakfast, burgers and fries and pies with a mountain of merengue.

There have been a lot of negative reviews of the Smokey Valley Truck Stop (Olive Hill KY). But we stopped in for an early lunch anyways because I don’t generally believe them. We tried the Smokey Valley Burger with Potato Skins and the homemade Vegetable Soup. The Potato Skins were the highlight of the meal. I was expecting a hollowed out potato skin but they were extra thick potato peels deep fried. Great flavor and texture. The Smokey Valley burger had great flavor but man was it dry. The actual patties were seasoned very well just way over cooked. The soup was good. Service was good; I didn’t perceive the staff as rude. They just don’t get into small talk; even with regulars. Prices were a little high.

Nasty food!!! rude employees !! nasty dirty place! guess that's what happens when new owners take over and don't know what they are doing!! id like to see triple d go there now..i bet they wouldn't even air the show.. pathetic .

The old owners made amazing food but since the new people took over it has become nasty. I've at there a lot considering I'm an olive hill native and just being honest over the last year or so every.time I've home there it's been gross!!

First, and foremost, they serve coconut MERINGUE pie, NOT coconut CREAM pie. It tastes good once you remove the meringue. Would much rather have a coconut cream pie, though. I have been here three times hoping each visit was a fluke or just a bad day. But, as the saying goes, "three strikes and you're out". This place's odor is wretched, probably due to the smoking allowed. It may be clean, but it just seems dirty. Service is slow, and I've never been there on a busy day.

Stop for dessert - all three we tried were delicious! Those who ordered breakfast were also happy with their selections. Otherwise, I wished I had just ordered dessert.

Had the misfortune to hear about this place. Service (?), food were terrible. We waited over an hour for our meal, We were going to leave but said maybe it would be worth the wait, it wasn't. Place was dirty too!

We stopped over the Memorial Day weekend (Saturday?) around 2:00 p.m. The buidling was closed, no one around. Cars (as in a used car dealer's stock) were triple parked in front of the business. I saw a "For Rent" or "For Sale" sign on the property, and some "Closed" signs on the building.

Don't bother. Almost everything we ordered clearly had come frozen in a package. Keep driving and go to Cracker Barrel.

I was there on Friday morning and it was open and serving food. My grandson and I had lots of breakfast food and the bill came to 12.31 plus tip, not bad. Only one person smoking, I wanted to get some pie to go but was told they had only opend that morning, so no pies made yet, I guess I will have to drive back for lunch one day.

"Closed for renovation until further notice" was posted all over the place. The whole area looks abandoned.

Go to college just 30 minutes away. Been here many times, always great! I'm even going today. :D The ladies there are awesome, and you will absolutely love the coconut creme pie. I've ordered many of the last few years. Delicious!

Cute place, coconut cream pie was good, but the chicken strips were forgettable. Friendly staff. White gravy was bland, wasn't as good as Guy suggests.

My son and I stopped by for breakfast one morning in November. The place had a nice crowd developing even though they had just opened. The food we received was superb. It was one of the best breakfast's I've had anywhere. I live two hours away from this establishment, but I am already planning my next trip. :)

my wife watched this episode on our tv, and she made this gravy for the biscuits exactly like the owner made it on the show, it was so delicious and our neighbor couldn't believe how good it was, thank goodness i have a wife who can make anything off of a video, because the restraunt is too far from where we live!

Had homemade vegetable soup and the famous Coconut Creme Pie. The older waitresses were sweet and the Coconut Creme Pie...the best ever!!! Our 2nd stop on our DDD honeymoon..worth the trip.

We specifically stopped here on our way to Nashville and I'm so glad we didn't let the negative reviews keep us from this place.  The food was terrific, the pies to die for. Yes the service is slow, but then the place was packed. Our only complaint was the smoking in the restaurant.  The couple in the booth behind us never stopped and consequently when we left to go back to our motel, we reeked of stale cigarette smoke. My husband and I both had the fried chicken which was some of the best I've ever ate.  We took back slices of pie to the motel for later and it was worth the trip alone.

Hello, you ordered a salad! Duh!

  • Posted by Amber Crank May 2011

THE worst truck stop diner I AND MY HUSBAND, have ever been to. My "chef" salad was chunks of lettuce, carrot slivers, cucumber, tomato, and strips of KRAFT SINGLES with some chewy ham chunks.  Asked for ONION, lady never came back after 10 min.  Everyone else was almost finished, so I went to the counter and asked another lady for onion. 5 more min (standing wobbly on a cane) and finally got the onion...  During this time a gentleman that was obviously upset went behind the counted and refilled his own coffee, I guess no one gets refills...  Got back to the table and started while everyone else finished.  Not too tasty (as if I didn't guess) and NOT ONE WAITRESS ever checked on our table after initially dropping the food (and checks) off.  Should have known what we were in for when it took 5 minutes longer for my salad than for three plates of pancakes with meat and eggs...  Hubby says pancakes were so greasy they slid down his throat.

Traveling through KY on 4/22/11. Heard about this place from the KY visitors center. Ordered the best bacon cheese burger I ever had. The burger was well done and juicey. Thick hickory bacon topped the burger. Would definately stop again if ever in KY, this time I'll have to get me a piece of pie too.

I love this place.  I have not been in years and I was flipping through the channels last night and happened to catch it on Food Network.  I can't remember what I had last time...  but it must have been good to have rememberd it.  Everyone is right... must have been the coconut cream pie.
