Alright, food adventurers! If you're cruisin' around Chicago and have a hankering for some seriously flavorful Latin American eats, you HAVE to make a pit stop at Omarcitos. This place was recently spotlighted on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and for good reason!
Nestled in Chicago’s vibrant culinary scene, Omarcitos packs big flavors into an unassuming corner spot that recently wowed Guy Fieri on the hit show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Known for its fusion of traditional Mexican dishes with a modern twist, this cozy eatery sets itself apart by using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and bold spices.
Step inside for a warm, family-friendly atmosphere—complete with colorful décor and friendly service. Don’t miss out on their signature mole tacos, which Guy dubbed a “flavor explosion,” or the decadent house-made churros for dessert. If you’re craving a taste of authentic comfort food with a creative edge, Omarcitos is a must-visit gem in the Windy City.
Here are the dishes that Guy Fieri featured on the show
Lechon Plate. Citrus garlic mojo marinated pork shoulder, pulled and seared with vinegar steamed onions. Served with your choice of either garlic yellow rice or white rice with black beans and Maduros (sweet plantains) or Tostones (savory crispy fried green plantains).
acos Dorados De Pollo en Consomé. Four crispy seasoned rolled up chicken taco dorados/flautas topped with Omarcito's green garlic sauce, crema Salvadoreña, shredded cabbage, sliced tomatoes, queso fresco served with a side of green tomatillo chicken consomé with chickpeas.
First of all the best part of the visit might be that I got to meet the guy from the show. It's super rare for me to go to a Triple D location and meet the person from the episode. He has one of the most infectious personalities I've met and I can tell he's super passionate about running a food spot. We even discussed his old restaurant Irazu since I've been watching the show forever.
Back to the food, I got to try both the Lechon plate and Tacos Dorados De Pollo en Consomé along with a banana oatmeal shake. The banana oatmeal shake is even better than the normal oatmeal shake he's known for at Irazu. The Lechon plate was so delicious! It came with two separate sauces where one was quite a bit spicy but tasty and the other was milder (both light or dark green). The sides were great on this plate with tasty rice, black beans, and sweet plantains. The Tacos Dorados were also fantastic! The dipping juice it came with was a perfect offset to the Tacos Dorados. The guy even gave me instructions to maximize the best taste by dumping the rest of the veggies in the juice. I will come back again! 8.8/10
