My husband & I are huge fans of guys triple D show & decided to take a road trip with our two friends to the new England states based on his visits. Tried this place but was a little disappointed. Service was extremely slow & the traditional lobster roll was disappointing but the Connecticut style was so much better. There fresh made hot pretzels were good but definitely not worth the trip.
Finally made to the Lobster Shanty last year. Lobster roll and fries claims were perfect. We also tried the calamari; no marinara sauce needed. Price, service and quality top notch.
Just had the lobster roll Oct. 2012 it was delicious I swear it was a whole lobster it had so much meat in it.

The Lobster Shanty has the best fried clams in the north shore- light and fresh and not overly battered!

they are know for great drinks, great wait staff, outdoor eating/drinking, outdoor music on the week-ends, a place where everyone really knows everyone, except the tourist. but even they make friends with regulars when they are there. a local landmark. and dee and lee are pretty cool too.

Best lobster roll I ever had. All lobster, tiny bit of celery and mayo. The Black & Tan onion rings were unbelievable. It's also in a nice location, right off the pedestrian mall. Outside tables were nice, but there was a wait. The bar area seemed to be a great place to eat as well, but we had a nice small table by a window. My husband had the lobster pie and clam chowder and said both were awesome. Our waitress could not have been nicer and more attentive. All around great experience. Be prepared to wait during high tourist season though (October).

I love the homemade sweet potato chips, the citrus dressing on a chicken salad. Also had a great piece of sword fish with mango chutney. Love the out door seating great place to people watch.

the lobster shanty is ALWAYS my very first stop in Salem after checking into the B&B. the patio seating is the best for people watching, and their food & drink are the perfect pick-me-up after a four hour drive.

Love sitting on the patio and having a 'big 'lobster roll, onion rings, salad and washing it down with a nice wine. They have live music Thur. Fri., Sat., and Sundays. Doesn't get any better than that!!!!!!!!!

Although they advertise "Warm Beer, Lousy Food, Rude Bartenders, Surly Servers, Cranky Cooks and Nervous Lobsters", the only part that's true is the nervous lobsters! Ok, maybe the waitstaff is a little surly, but only in the best way possible. This is my favorite place in Salem to hang out. The inside is a little too hot for me, but there are lots of tables outside full of awesome people. They have a great variety of food, and even offer vegan chili and veggie burgers for those of us who are vegetarians. If you're looking for a place to have a few drinks, some good food and spend some time talking to friends (and maybe even strangers), go here.

:-D :-D :-D :-D A really great little place. Nice people running it, nice people working there (in spite of what the signs will promise you), and a good menu with fair prices. We were just there Sunday and the breeze was grand on the patio, the DJ was playing a great selection of r&b/soul/light jazz - even the dog had a great time. If you haven't tried The Lobster Shanty yet, you have to try it this year. I really think you'll love it as much as we do.
