Jewel in South East Virginia is Horseshoe Restaurant in South Hill, VA
In an area not known for great restaurants, The Horseshoe in South Hill, VA is a jewel in the rough. They are known for using super fresh local ingredients and pie. Good lord, the pie! My personal favorites are Chocolate Walnut and Peanut Butter. The Peanut Butter is unlike any other peanut butter pie I have ever had and the Chocolate Walnut is worth a visit all by itself. They feature regional favorites such as southern pimento cheese that they make daily in small batches and onion rings so delicately breaded and flavorful that all others pale in comparison. Scott, the owner, is almost always on hand; making sure everyone is happy and all the food is prepared to perfection. I love that they have daily specials featuring products from local farms and they buy local produce in small amounts to ensure freshness. This old blacksmith shop (hence the horseshoe name), has a ton of charm with food and service to match!
