Mothers Cupboard Fish Fry and Diner in Syracuse, NY
Found this place because it showed up on Google Maps. We were just passing through Syracuse and stopped. It is a tiny place that seems to be quite popular with locals. We ate at the bar and were entertained watching the cooks. They and the wait staff are extremely hard working. The portions are huge - they make a 6 pound frittata and pancakes that are humongous. The omelets are stuffed with 3 or 4 hands full of filling. The Red Velvet waffles are to die for - light and fluffy and very, very tasty. I got an over easy egg which was cooked correctly, a rare thing! It came with 2 slices of toast, 5 slices of bacon and 1/2 pound of home fries. All for like $9.50. My husband got the steak and eggs special, and he said it was yummy. We shared a red velvet waffle. We had more food than we could eat. All staff were moving fast but were friendly and attentive. Watching the 2 cooks work was like it was a well choreographed act. One took care of the eggs and potatoes, as well as all the waffles, while the other managed the wide variety of meats and the breads that needed to be griddled. The whole thing worked like a well oiled machine. It was particularly nice seeing the cooks keep their griddles/work stations clean. Everything was yummy!!! If I lived in Syracuse I would be a frequent customer, despite having to wait for a seat. I have photos that I would love to send to you, just tell me where to send them.
