Backwoodz BBQ Restaurant in Richmond, VA
What do you get when you combine an engineer, a food trailer, $1 tacos, and an incredible work ethic? You get Backwoodz BBQ! Located just outside Richmond, Virginia, Backwoodz BBQ is a family-owned restaurant with a story that began long before the first brisket hit the smoker. My father was an engineer with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for food. While working in engineering, he started a weekend side business at Dorey Park Farmers Market, where our family made and sold tacos for just $1 each out of a food trailer. Those humble beginnings eventually grew into catering, food trucks, and a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Sandston, Virginia. Today, the tacos have given way to Southern barbecue, with our smoked wings, brisket, and ribs taking center stage. These are the dishes we'd love for Guy to experience firsthand, along with the passion and hard work that go into preparing them. But what makes Backwoodz truly special is the man behind the smoker. My dad is outgoing, humble, incredibly hardworking, and deeply committed to the community that has supported him throughout his journey. He believes that building a successful business means more than serving great food. It means creating relationships, supporting local families, and finding ways to give back. From sponsoring the Highland Springs baseball team to partnering with local home economics teachers and students, Backwoodz continues to invest in the community that helped us grow. And through it all, we've remained a family business. I'm proud to work alongside my father, helping build upon something that started with a food trailer, a few ingredients, and a whole lot of determination. Backwoodz isn't just another barbecue restaurant. It's the story of a hardworking engineer who turned a weekend side hustle into a growing family business without losing sight of where he started or the people who helped him get there. We'd love to welcome Guy Fieri and the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives crew to Virginia to meet my dad, hear his story, and taste the smoked wings, brisket, and ribs that make Backwoodz special.
