Bigelow's Fried Clams in Rockville Centre, NY

Bigelow's Fried Clams in Rockville Centre, NY. Been around and almost the same since 1939....A horseshoe linoleum counter, stools, and an assembly line one can see as their meal is cooked -- bellied fried clams are the draw, but people come equally for all the other seafood and fish. But to have a fried belly clam with a perfectly fresh and unobtrusive crust and their PERFECT tartar sauce that has remained the same for as long as I can remember (and I am 62) is a memory turned reality. it has turned owners only once and the current ones know people are there because they just love the joint. Used to have paper plates, cokes in a bottle and straw, but besides that, it remains the perfect clam bar. And if that weren't enough, it was the only place in the 50's, 60's, and through now to have integrated customers. I bumped ion to our family housekeeper many a time when I drove out to RVC from NYC as an adult craving that food. Not a big deal now, but still.....
