Hello Guy, I think you are awesome and I hope to someday visit
Hello, Guy. First of all, I think you are awesome and I hope to someday visit as many fabulous places as you have. That's definitely on my bucket list! Secondly, the place I am suggesting has been around for I don't know how many years. Both myself and my boyfriend went there as kids and the place is still the same. Better tables outside, but the food remains the same as it's always been - FANTASTIC! The place is Johnny's World Famous Reef Restaurant on City Island in the Bronx. Both Chris (my boyfriend) and I grew up in New York City (him in the Bronx, me in Manhattan) and we both went to Johnny's with our families as a kids and remember running around, playing outside and smelling the fried goodness the air. It's not really a drive-in or a diner, it's more like a dive, but all the locals go there and in the summer, it's always ridiculously packed. Chris and I have found that if you go later in the evening for a late dinner, the less packed it is. (But just as good!) I know a couple of places on the island that have tried to copy it, but it's just not the same. Also, one of my book club gals told me that her husband worked there as a teenager. This place has been around for AGES! The people who work there are friendly and even though it can get crazy, they always (at least when I've gone there) take care of you quickly and keep the line moving. And there's ALWAYS a line. In any case, I hope you can come and check it out! Their website seems to be under construction, but you can check them out Yelp.
