Recommendations for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives

Prosperity Social Club in Cleveland, OH

It's my email above. Their website for the place is prosperitysocialclub.com I came to Cleveland for a college graduation. The family went to a new "top chef"'s restaurant, and didn't like it. Asked the valet for other nearby restaurants. He named a few. When asked about food, he simply said, "Fun." What an understatement, both for the food and the place itself,a conversion from an old bar in the 1930's updated and funky for a renewing neighborhood.. At least three people in our party commented at the end of dinner that their meal was either "the best ever" or the best in three years of its type. Service was astounding with constant check backs, great interaction. I've watched dozens of "Diners, Drive Ins..." over the years, and been to a few you've visited. This place ranks up there with some of the most amazing places you've covered. I am appending below their own description of the place on their website with contact/location information, and hope you check it out. If I lived in Cleveland, I'd be there almost every week. Art Lerner Prosperity Social Club is truly a Cleveland experience; a retro style atmosphere, cool vibe, eclectic clientele and an unpretentious attitude! Prosperity Social Club offers a sophisticated, tavern-style menu that is vegetarian friendly, and an array of craft beers and libations. Residing in an original 1938 barroom, Prosperity Social Club is open to the public, being a social club only in a figure of speech, behavior and attitude. Art Deco influences, wormy chestnut walls and vintage beer memorabilia, emanate a nostalgic time of a bygone era. A causal, kitschy game room is equipped with an old-fashioned bowling machine, pool table and vintage board games. During the warm weather that Clevelanders crave, a retro-style, vacation themed patio provides an urban oasis for leisurely cocktails and outdoor relaxation. Prosperity Social Club Depression era bar and decor to match. Cheap drinks, great food. The star of the menu is a fish fry made with haddock and the absolute best beer batter. Great place to grab a couple of cold ones and a fine meal. They have a nice selection of wines and micro brews, but I always go with the blue collar specials like PBR. This place also serves old school classics like Stroh's, Black Label, and Ballantine. Real retro stuff. Also, they have a local favorite called POC, which when it was originally brewed had a bad reputation as being low rent, but a micro brewery bought up the name and trademark and actually brews a fine pilsner.
