"Tamale Factory in Augusta, AR"
First- we are such die hard fans of diners, drive ins and dives that my 86 year old mother loves it now!! Love Guy - who is "Off the Chain" and would love you to hear my Mom say "it's off the hook". Here in Wynne, AR ( my hometown) population 8,600 and has always been around that number, we have chain restaurants and not a lot of those. So when we want to eat out like what we had in the Little Rock, Ar area. we go to the Community of Gregory, AR to the Tamale Factory. This local joint is in an old horse barn, looks ordinary with horses, cows and cats and open farm land around. Open the barn door and inside is where George Eldridge makes homemade tamales and chili fit for a president - President Bill Clinton that is. Mr. Eldridge makes the tamales for Doe's Eat Place - Little Rock and Hot Springs Ar. Doe's and the Tamale Factory were some of President Clinton's favorite Arkansas restaurants. He serves up a mean porterhouse and clean, flaky catfish, not too salty or with too much batter. And has a cool bar with beautiful stemware, martinis seem to be the favorite. You may want to scout it out. Let us know if you do, we'd love to be there and let my mom tell you the catfish platter is "off the hook"!
