Woodpeckers BBQ in Orangedale, Florida. I know that BBQ joints are a dime a dozen but this is a really great out of the way place on the st. johns river. One light town just past resume safe speed. they have great brisket and ribs and [here's what i like] they make their own sides. the beans and greens made on site and were great. they open at 11 and close when the food runs out. you can dine in, carry out or eat out back under the live oak trees. it's cattycorner from george's bar which doesn't actually have a name. you have to live here to know that it is george's/ it is on sr 13 south of jacksonville at the junction of sr 13 and 16a. they also make their own sauces.

Woodpeckers is a locally owned BBQ joint, Lisa Marton is the owner. Tucked away in the back roads west of St. Augustine, it is home to an award-winning Datil sauce and a plethora of lunch options. With three pit masters set up, cooks prepare turkey, pork, chicken, brisket, sausage, and ribs daily. Other foods that have some spice to them are the baked beans, cornbread/corn, and slaw. Pecker Plates are presented with two sides and Texas toast, while sandwiches come with only one side and toast. There is an assortment of sides: green beans, baked potato, mac and cheese, collard greens, and coleslaw. Dine inside or use the large picnic tables set up outside as well. Customers can do take-out by phone or at the order window. This business caters events and parties, too. Woodpeckers BBQ takes the time-honored tradition of low and slow smoking seriously, using carefully selected oak wood to infuse every cut of meat with deep, rich flavors. Come in and give us a try!
The best food we have ever eaten! Amazing smoked meats, local and well thought out sides. Everything is exploding with flavor! Try the datil sausage, datil baked beans and banana pudding! Great service and atmosphere. Locally owned and operated. Go check it out, you won’t be disappointed!

Great dive BBQ spot with fantastic datil pepper slaw, beans, corn bread and anything else they can cram it in. 5 or 6 bbq sauces including a white sauce that is Dyno Mite! Decent looking waitresses :) couple keepers
