"Saw's Soul Kitchen in Avondale, AL"

Josh Cooke

This barbeque joint is tiny, and incredible. Their grits, greens and bbq dish is worth driving hours for. Right next door they have a brewery that has revitalized the neighborhood, and it preceded Saw's Soul Kitchen. Both have only been around a couple years, but have established themselves and created a healthy business community around them. Alabama just passed the "Free the Hops" movement in 2009 allowing breweries to exist in AL, so Avondale brewery is a staple in this new market of local breweries. Saw's Soul Kitchen is a start-up from the local Saw's BBQ. Saw's is entirely unassuming from the outside, which makes it taste that much better. They also make the whole neighborhood smell awesome. You drive through the neighborhood and leave wanting bbq. Saw's Soul Kitchen and Avondale Brewery would really fit the feel of Diners, Drive-in, and Dives.
