Coop's Place in New Orleans, LA
Coop's Place definitely qualifies as a 'dive'. A planned trip to New Orleans last October inspired me to research places to eat. I found numerous reviews by both locals and visitors highly recommending this place. When you first peer inside you wonder if this the right place. It is dimly lit; the epitome of a 'dive bar'. I was with a friend and we were seated at a long table with other diners as there are few tables. The waiter arrives who not only looked like a pirate but sounded like one. What did we get ourselves into??? Needless to say it was a GREAT dinner! We both ordered the New Orleans sampler which came with a cup of gumbo, rabbit jambalaya, fried chicken, shrimp creole, and rice and beans. The gumbo was delicious (I usually am not a fan) the jambalaya was the best I ever had rabbit or not; and the fried chicken was very good! I tried shrimp creole several times and am not a fan. I still am not a fan. I have to say we had a great time! We met a fun couple from Australia who also checked with locals for recommendations. They were on a US regional food tour as the young man owns an eatery in Australia. Even the waiter was fun (first impression ...gruff)! I definitely recommend you visit Coop's. It is unpretentious, super reasonably priced and delicious!
