Fill-Er-Up in Parkton, MD

This is a gas station. For a year I would go in for coffee while filling up with gas and always be amazed by how good it smelled. So last Sunday after church I suggested we stop at Fill er' up for breakfast. This suggestion was met with the ridicule and the derision of my teenagers and the vast skepticism of my wife who is very selective about her food. Do not expect a four star restaurant atmosphere. This is not a restaurant. It's a Gas station that runs a Hertz rental franchise, rents space to a Crab shack business and a snowballl stand. BUT for a gas station it surprises in every way. There are two designated seating areas one amidst the bustle of the convenience store and deli counter, and one exclusively for diners with a television in a separated slightly more private area. Every one seems to know everyone, it is a cliche' for a small town atmosphere. What is extraordinary is the quality of the food that comes out of the kitchen. The crab omelet for 7$ was loaded with crab meat and melted Muenster cheese that stretches into infinitely long delicious strings as you consume every delicious bite. It doesn't look pretty but it is phenomenal. A speck of parsley or spring onions or anything green on the plate would improve the presentation. But just like everything at fill er up - don't judge the book by it's cover - it's what's inside that counts. The BLT is stuffed with perfectly cooked, crisp, giant strips of bacon and fresh tomatoes and lettuce. Not only is it delicious but it is actually beautiful. They also offer a nice selection of Gourmet Coffee from Baltimore Coffee Company. Fill er up may be relatively unappealing and even ugly from the outside, but for delicious food that is reasonably priced and served in a quaint vibrant atmosphere it really hits the spot. My friends rave about the cream of crab soup. i haven't tried the pizza yet but it smells incredible. My sarcastic teenagers and now enthusiastic wife are all looking forward to our next trip to Fill er up.
