There is an amazing restaurant in Ottumwa Iowa called the canteen that is worldwide Famous..I was started in 1936..would love to see you do a'segment on it..Tom arnold even loves it and is from there..I am from there and now live in Memphis Tenn and still crave them.Iowa is famous for Loose meat Hamburger sandwiches and this one gets Number 1 in the state every year! The Canteen in Ottumwa IA. They only serve one thing, loose meat sandwiches and homemade pies brought in daily by the ladies who work there. But this is one sandwich that when you leave town you return to have one, refer all your friend to, and patients I work with in the hospital beg for (sometimes the thing we bribe patients with to finally begin eating again). It was also on an episode of the original Rosanne show. It has only a few seats and is always standing room only. And the best thing, it's an adventure to find it as it is down an alley and off the beaten path.
